911 Health Watch Response to Release of Updated Statistics from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund

“Although the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund got off to a slow start, we are definitely seeing continued real improvement in their processing of claims and they are still headed in the right direction.

“This is good news for injured and ill 9/11 Responders and Survivors and their families, coming on the eve of the Anniversary of September 11th. ” Ben Chevat, Executive Director 911 Health Watch Inc.

Here are some of the statistics that the Special Master reported on:

The report states that as of September 8th, 2014, of those who registered with the VCF, 16,449 have submitted eligibility forms. According to Ms. Birnbaum, of those 16,449 claims, 7,885 have been determined eligible for compensation, while 7,314 claims cannot be decided because they are missing either signed permission to obtain claimants’ records, adequate medical documentation, or sufficient proof that claimants were at the site.

Of the 7,885 claimants who were determined eligible, 4,556 have submitted compensation forms, for which 1,843 compensation decisions have been made.

As of the September 8th, 2014, the Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) has made determinations for compensation of $493,766,673 million dollars — an increase of $171,305,728 million since July.

Of the 1,843 claims that have had determinations made, 1,582 have been for responders, 230 have been non responders and 22 have been injured residents.
