911 Health Watch Response to April 10th Message from Special Master and the Release of Updated Statistics for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund “Yesterday’s message from Special Master Sheila Birnbaum outlining the steps the VCF has taken already, as well as future actions it will take in the coming months to increase the number of final determinations and awards is promising.

“While the updated program statistics show there have been improvements in the numbers of processed claims and an increase in the number of final determinations, it’s especially encouraging that the Special Master is redoubling her efforts to speed determinations and resolve cases.

“The Special Master has been responsive to suggestions from 911 Health Watch and others to move the process forward, and we appreciate her openness to implement changes. For example, the latest updated statistics provide new and increased levels of detail on the process for the 911 Community.

“We know that the Special Master understands the urgency of her task. We will continue to work with her to fulfill the goals of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act and to ensure that injured 9/11 responders, survivors and their families receive the compensation for their injuries they need and have been waiting for.”
