Update on Victims Compensation Fund

Special Master Sheila Birnbaum, of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund or VCF, recently posted an update on the progress the Fund has made in compensating those injured by the attack on 9/11.

She has published program statistics, which she plans to update monthly, that show the progress in reviewing claims and making determinations.

So far, almost 18,000 responders and survivors have registered with the VCF, fulfilling the upcoming October 3rd deadline for starting the application process.

Of those that have registered, 4,711 have submitted the eligibility forms. Of that 4,711, according to Ms. Birnbaum 2,770 of those forms are incomplete; they are missing “the original Attestations, Certifications, and/or Exhibits” and cannot be processed yet, 1,282 that have the paperwork done and are being reviewed and 307 have been deemed eligible.

Of the 307 claims that have been determined to be eligible, 84 have submitted compensation forms, of which 39 have compensation decisions.

Hopefully in the next monthly report, we will see an increase in the number of cases where a compensation determination has been made.
